An astrology calendar calculated from NASA ephemeris data

This astrology calendar lists the events astrologers track month by month: new and full moons, eclipses, retrograde and direct stations, and each planet's move from one sign into the next. Every date and time is calculated from NASA JPL's DE440 ephemeris rather than copied from a printed table, and it's shown in your own time zone. Use the month navigation above to move through 2026 and 2027, or any month between 1850 and 2149.

What the calendar includes

New moons and full moons

A new moon is the moment the Moon and Sun share the same zodiac longitude; a full moon is the moment they're exactly opposite. The cycle from one new moon to the next, the synodic month, averages about 29.5 days, so most years have twelve full moons and some have thirteen. The calendar gives the exact minute and the sign each lunation falls in. Astrologers traditionally read the new moon as a starting point and the full moon as a culmination or moment of clarity. Our guide to the new moon and full moon in astrology explains how each is read.

Eclipses

Eclipses happen when a new or full moon falls close enough to the lunar nodes for the Sun, Earth and Moon to line up. The calendar marks a lunation as a solar or lunar eclipse when the geometry meets the eclipse condition; our engine reproduces every eclipse in NASA's catalog from 2024 to 2030. Whether you can actually see a given eclipse depends on where you are.

Retrograde and direct stations

From Earth, every planet apart from the Sun and Moon periodically seems to slow down, stop and move backwards against the stars for a while. The moment it appears to stop is a station: a retrograde station when the backward motion begins, a direct station when it ends. It's an effect of perspective, not a real change in the planet's orbit. Mercury goes retrograde about three times a year for roughly three weeks; Venus for about six weeks roughly every 19 months; Mars for two to three months about every two years; the outer planets spend several months of every year retrograde. See retrograde planets explained and Mercury retrograde explained.

Ingresses

An ingress is a planet entering a new sign. The Sun's ingresses mark the start of each sign's season, and the ingress into Aries coincides with the March equinox. Ingresses of the slow planets, Jupiter to Pluto, are rarer and set the tone of a whole period.

Key dates in 2026 and 2027

Dates below are in universal time (UTC) and can fall a day earlier or later where you live; the calendar pages show the exact local time.

Mercury retrograde

  • 2026: February 26 to March 20 (in Pisces), June 29 to July 23 (in Cancer), and October 24 to November 13 (in Scorpio).
  • 2027: February 9 to March 3 (Pisces back into Aquarius), June 10 to July 4 (Cancer back into Gemini), and October 7 to October 28 (Scorpio back into Libra).

Venus and Mars retrograde

  • Venus is retrograde from October 3 to November 14, 2026, moving from Scorpio back into Libra.
  • Mars is retrograde from January 10 to April 1, 2027, moving from Virgo back into Leo.

Eclipses

  • 2026: annular solar eclipse on February 17 (Aquarius), total lunar eclipse on March 3 (Virgo), total solar eclipse on August 12 (Leo), partial lunar eclipse on August 28 (Pisces).
  • 2027: annular solar eclipse on February 6 (Aquarius), penumbral lunar eclipse on February 20 (Virgo), penumbral lunar eclipses on July 18 (Capricorn) and August 17 (Aquarius), and a total solar eclipse on August 2 (Leo).

Slow planets changing sign

  • Neptune entered Aries on January 26, 2026, and Saturn followed on February 14, 2026.
  • Uranus entered Gemini on April 26, 2026.
  • Jupiter entered Leo on June 30, 2026, and moves into Virgo on July 26, 2027.
  • Pluto stays in Aquarius throughout both years.

Saturn and Neptune together in Aries is the headline change of this period for many astrologers, since both planets had spent years in Pisces. Jump straight to October 2026 to see Venus and Mercury both turning retrograde within the same month.

How to use an astrology calendar

  • As a rhythm, not a rulebook. Many people use new moons to set intentions and full moons to take stock. That's a reflective habit, not a guarantee of results.
  • To understand what you're reading elsewhere. When a horoscope mentions "the full moon in Pisces" or "Mars stationing direct", the calendar tells you exactly when it happens.
  • With your own chart. An event matters more personally if it lands near a planet or angle in your birth chart. If a new moon falls on the degree of your Sun, for instance, astrologers would read it as personally significant. Your free birth chart shows your degrees.

Retrogrades and eclipses don't cause breakdowns or misfortune, and there's no evidence they should stop you signing a contract or making a decision. Astrology reads them symbolically. We include them because many people like to follow the rhythm of the sky, not because they predict anything.

A personal calendar with your own transits

The public calendar is the same for everyone. With membership, the calendar also shows transits to your own birth chart: when Saturn reaches your Moon, when Jupiter crosses your Ascendant, and so on. For a one-off look ahead, the personal transits report covers six months and the year ahead report covers twelve. For a sign-based view of the same events, see the horoscopes.

Astrology calendar FAQ

What time zone are the dates in?

The calendar shows times in your local time zone, detected by your browser. If JavaScript is turned off, times are shown in UTC. That's why an event can appear on a different date for someone in another part of the world.

How many times is Mercury retrograde in 2026?

Three: February 26 to March 20, June 29 to July 23, and October 24 to November 13 (UTC). In 2027 there are also three periods, starting February 9, June 10 and October 7.

How often is there a full moon?

About every 29.5 days, the length of the lunar cycle. That gives twelve full moons in most years and thirteen in some. When a month has two, the second is popularly called a blue moon.

Where do your dates come from?

We calculate them ourselves from NASA JPL's DE440 ephemeris using the Skyfield library. Our tests check lunation, station and equinox times against reference data to within minutes, and every eclipse from 2024 to 2030 against NASA's catalog. Details are on the methodology page.

Is it bad to start something during a retrograde?

There's no evidence for it. Retrograde motion is an optical effect of our viewpoint from a moving Earth. Some people like to use those weeks for reviewing rather than launching, which is a perfectly reasonable habit, but it's a choice, not a rule.

Which years does the calendar cover?

Any month from 1850 to 2149, the range of the ephemeris file we use.
